A little bit about myself. My name is Barbara Taitano, all my friends and family call me "Bobbie" and I am from Barrigada(Tiyan), Guam. Before Grief Recovery, I've had a long and exciting career in the travel industry. I worked as a travel agent for a good 12 years of my travel career and then moved over to the airline industry (CO/UA) until I retired in 2013 after 25 years of service.
What brought me to the Grief Recovery Method. The year 2015 was a very trying year for me. My husband Johnny suffered 2 major heart attacks in June and was finally medivaced to Honolulu for open heart surgery. This was a very scary time for me as I was so worried of the outcome of the surgery. While we were in Honolulu waiting for Johnny's surgery, we received a very devastating phone call from home that my son-in-law Frank was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident which took his life. My heart broke as soon as I received that news. Now I am forced to make a choice. Do I go home and take care of my daughter and grandchildren or do I stay with my husband. I was scared, confused and very angry at that very moment. I did not want to leave my husband for fear of losing him on that operating table but was heartbroken at the same time because I was not at home to support my daughter and family. My husband made that decision for me, he sent me home. When I came home the sadness was so overwhelming. My daughter Darlene was in such a dark place, she was so broken hearted and I did not know how to fix it. Our prayers were answered when a friend of hers reached out to her online and told her about the Grief Recovery Institute. She said, what do I have to lose Mom. Again, as her mom I was so worried that this was not going to help her as she was already set in her mind that there is nothing that was going to help her, her husband was gone. When she came back home, she was a totally different person. She had a light about her that was not there before she left.
When Darlene told me she wanted to bring the Grief Recovery Method to Guam, I said, "Let's do it"! In 2016, we went to Atlanta, Georgia and attended the certification class, that was the beginning of our journey in helping as many people heal their hearts in the shortest amount of time by bringing the Grief Recovery Method to Guam.
