My name is Daria and I created affectautism.com to help parents navigate a respectful, empowering, relationship-based approach to autism. A decade ago when our son was 28 months old, he had seizures and severe brain inflammation that landed us in the hospital for over 3 months. His autism diagnosis followed shortly after and it took me a few years to settle into a new normal. And then I found the Grief Recovery Method. I hadn't realized I had so much unprocessed grief around what happened to my son. GRM was so powerful that I immediately trained to provide this service to others. Now I offer online (or one-on-one) programs to caregivers or family members of children or adults with disabilities.
Our journey parenting those with disabilities is filled with extremes. We experience more intense ups and downs. While we celebrate our children's growth and achievements, we also can easily get discouraged by the challenges our children have that others don't face. Especially at the beginning, we grieve the child we thought we would have every time we see other children who are at a place where our child is not. It can be a challenge to accept the child we have in front of us and be the best, supportive and loving parent we can be. Grief Recovery Method can help us move forward and get to the place where we can be the energetic, encouraging, and available parents that our children need to thrive. Let me help you get to that place.
