Your UK Director: Catherine Best

Catherine Best is the Director of UK & European Operations for the Grief Recovery Institute, an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist, and holds a Master’s degree in Autism and Neurodiverse Conditions. She brings nearly 30 years of experience in education to her grief recovery work.

After discovering the Grief Recovery Method in 2013, Catherine left her university lecturing career to dedicate herself full-time to grief recovery. She has trained hundreds of educators, counsellors, school staff, and parents across the UK — with a particular focus on helping children navigate loss.

Catherine provides dedicated support to all UK and European specialists — from pre-training questions to building your practice after certification. She also leads regional Connectors Meetings and speaks internationally about children’s grief and the role of schools in supporting bereaved young people.

“1.1 million children and young people under 18 would benefit from specialist services. We could be that specialist service. We have the tools, we have the knowledge. We already have the capacity to see them immediately, to take them seriously, with compassion.”

— Catherine Best, International GRM Conference

“In my nearly 30 years in education, a great number of children I worked with who had behavioural issues were wrongly diagnosed. I know that now. An awful lot of those children were actually dealing with unresolved grief and loss. But in the classroom, they were labelled very differently.”

— Catherine Best, Director of UK Operations

An Evidence-Based Grief Recovery Programme

Validated by peer-reviewed research from Kent State University. No other grief recovery programme has this level of scientific backing.

The Method

A structured, action-based program that gives people the tools to move beyond loss

Guided by a certified specialist, you’ll work through a proven process that turns emotional pain into lasting recovery — not just talking, but real action steps that create real change.

1

Grief Education

Become aware of the patterns you develop to deal with loss—including "myths," avoidant behaviors, and the pretense that you're "fine"—all of which keep you from healing.

2

Discover your Losses

Construct a Loss History Graph, a powerful visual map of every significant loss in your life, and discover the emotions you still carry with respect to your losses.

3

Learn the Actions

Guided by a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, learn the specific actions needed to process and complete your relationship with the pain of loss.

4

Complete the Work

Release emotional pain by working through structured exercises, allowing you to express what you wish had been different or better, or never got a chance to say.

5

Live your life

Experience emotional completeness—a measurable shift from pain to hope, allowing you to open your heart once again.
