About Adrienne

Hi! My name is Adrienne Mejias and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Lafayette, LA. I am in private practice and work with children, teenagers, adults, couples, and families. I absolutely love my job! My personal life and interest in grief work are what brought me to the Grief Recovery Method. Before I became a therapist, I was a wife and mother. Early on in our marriage, my husband and I experienced the devastating losses of our first two children, both of whom were born with a genetic disorder. We also suffered losses through miscarriage. As a griever, I became interested in helping others who were grieving. When I mentioned to a friend that I wanted to learn more about grief work, she told me about the Grief Recovery Method. I was beyond excited to learn that there was an upcoming certification training in my area. For me, the training was both the hardest yet most rewarding work I had ever done. I felt like I was broken, and the GRM put me back together in a way that I could have never imagined. Since my training/certification in December 2019, I want to give others the opportunity to experience the healing that I have experienced. I can provide both group and one-on-one Grief Recovery Programs, including the four-session program, Helping Children with Loss. As an Advanced GRM Specialist, I can also provide the one-on-one Grief Recovery Program online. I can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 337-245-2500.

My Experience

I did not think I would be able to attend all 8 weeks. But I realized on the 2nd week that this is what I have been looking for and did not know it. I will continue each month to work on one aspect , or relationship where I have experienced grief. The format is what works for me. I liked graphing and organizing my thought in groups with titles. I could easily see where I need work and where I could let go. I do well with compartments. It's when the monkey mind starts jumping all over the place that I get into an emotional crisis. Keeping it in a timeline uncovers how and where I loose traction and go on the skids of grief. For so long I could not even put a name to what was going on with me. It's so clear now. I see that there are so many times and ways that I have experienced grief and did not have a name for it.

My Experience

This program made me face situations that I have put away for years. Bringing those situations and people back into the forefront of my mind was extremely hard, but also refreshing as I was able to finally deal with the trauma and put them back away for good with closure.
