About Cheryl

I came to find the Grief Recovery Method after two significant losses in a short period of time. March 2nd, 2021 my dear client Andrea, who I supported over 25 years, died from a terminal illness. Months later, on July 1st, 2021 my best friend, my sister Tammy died in her sleep at 53 years of age. My heart was in so much pain. Grief Recovery Method has been life changing and I continue to use this program and tools daily. As an Advance Grief Recovery Specialist, it is my privilege to support others through their healing journey. I provide virtual and in-person (Branford, CT) one-on-one and/or group Grief Recovery Method support. My compassion for healing others comes from my life experiences, as well as my education and training. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Community Based Therapeutic Recreation and Leisure Studies. I have worked with a variety of skillful independent adults with disabilities supporting them to maximize their quality of life for over 27 years at Vista Life Innovations in Westbrook, CT. I hold a Master's in Community Counseling from Southern Connecticut State University, practicing as a Licensed Professional Counselor with families and children for five years. While recognizing that clinical support is invaluable, I began to relate more to supporting on a deeper emotional level. This first came to light for me in 2010 after my son, who was at six at the time, was in his classroom learning; a few towns away at Sandy Hook Elementary school, a young man was in crisis and tragically took the lives of many children and adults, and himself. This tragic moment changed my life and perspective on how I wanted to support others; I wished to practice healing, helping others find the emotional tools to achieve recovery. I am honored to be connected with grievers to support all who are looking to heal their hearts.

My Experience

I have been in counseling relationships (usually as the one being counseled) for much of my life. Relative to others with whom I have experience, I thought Cheryl was outstanding. She was professional yet empathetic, insightful without being overbearing, and good at guiding the pace of our interactions. I can't fully express my appreciation and gratitude. The program has given me a method for experiencing/processing my grief which helps me to approach questions and issues which are otherwise overwhelming in both size and complexity. It also has provided me with an opportunity to speak about my experience without being judged or feeling that I was imposing. I began to "feel better" as soon as we began digging into the particular relationship that I was studying, and I hope that continues. As I told a colleague, I may not yet be on the "path to recovery," but for the first time the path is visible.

My Experience

After many years of therapies, self-help groups, and personal enrichment, The Grief Recovery Method provided me with a different perspective and approach to work through losses in my life that were not related to losing someone physically (death). The method has allowed me to have more insight into patterns in relationships and my own tendencies in how I relate to others. This insight and the method have proven to be invaluable in honoring my experiences and feelings and allowing me to move forward with a new perspective.

My Experience

The program with the facilitator was excellent. I loved the group structure which allowed us to work through various scenarios and points of view. I particularly appreciated the focus on emotions and compassion. It was a lot harder than just looking at the rational and intellectual aspects of grief, most often discussed in group discussions. I did not rate it outstanding because I did not go through a radical shift, and my pain was not raw and fresh.

My Experience

The program came to me just when I needed it! The small group and structure enabled me to safely express and experience my grief. I recommend this method for anyone who likes to use a proven method.
