About Debbie

I began my journey with the Grief Recovery Method with needing to be convinced that it would "work" for me.  In 2005, my father pasted away after many years of struggling through the debilitating effects of Parkinson's Disease.  By 2010, a GRM Specialist moved to Austin, TX and a good friend of mine completed the course and raved about it to me.  I was familiar with the book, had even read it, and was aware of the steps to the method.  But, I didn't think it would work for me.  You see, being aware of the method without having the guidance and accountability to apply it to myself did not create the belief that it would work.  My response to my friend, and to everyone at the introductory class was, "I don't think this is going to work.  I'm only here because my friend and you [I pointed to the Specialist] believe it will work."  I can honestly say that the GR Method did work for me!  I have continued practicing the tools of the GR Method that I learned while in the class, and continue using the these tools to complete other losses as well as in my day-to-day life. In experiencing the recovery from grief that I had previously felt locked up in, I am motivated to provide that same opportunity to others.  I offer a variety of GRM Programs:  8 week Grief Recovery Support Groups or the opportunity to participate 1:1 in person, Helping Children with Loss and Pet Loss.   I also offer classes specific to families of children with special needs, providing support to parents and siblings. My background is in Special Education, where I had the priviledge of teaching for over 20 years.  I have also had the opportunity to coordinate a children's ministry for elementary age children, as well as leading a women's ministry.   I am a survivor of cancer and actively participated with the American Cancer Society for many years, as well as a completing a marathon with the the Leukemia and Lymphomia Society.  I am a proud aunt to several nieces and nephews, with the opportunity to now love them more deeply and freely than I was able to in the past.   And this goes for all of my family and friend relationships. My next session begins April, 2025.  Feel free to contact me for more details, or to be added to my email list to receive on-going information.  My email is [email protected] .  You can also follow me on Facebook at Peaceful Journeys.

My Experience

Gratitude folds itself into every forward step I take because of the valuable tools Debra compassionately and authentically helped me connect to my healing journey through the Grief Recovery Method Program. She facilitated this program with an open heart and helped guide me through my depths of brokenness while creating a big enough space to handle it all.

My Experience

It was really amazing to understand specifically how I deal with grief. I really enjoyed being able to graph the other relationships and have that open and safe space to be vulnerable with others. I especially feel very grateful that I now know when I drift into those "STERBS". This program was the greatest balance in creating an individual experience for each person that goes through this program while also being able to relate to each other in ways that aren't a popular way to be unified.

My Experience

Coming into this program, I wasn't to sure of what to expect or even what I would get out of it. I was just really taking it because others in my ministry were advocating for it. I went on a limb, and throughout the course I was able to really discover new emotions that I had never really encountered. I'd say that I was able to accomplish some things that I probably wouldn't have been able to do by the end of the class. Debbie presented everything in a very professional way, and I was very pleased with even just getting hear her journey.
