Katrena Mayes is a Human Resources professional with over 20 years of experience in employee relations, facilitation, career development, organizational change, and talent management. In this second half of her career journey, Katrena has returned to her first love of mental wellness with a focus on grief. Katrena is an Advanced Certified Grief Recovery Specialist, coach, author, international speaker from Dallas, Texas. Her educational background includes a Master of Business Administration with an HR focus and a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology. Like you, I have experienced loss in many areas of my life. For most of us, the death of family and friends prove to be the most traumatic. When there are out-of-order deaths or unexpected life changing events lives are changed in an instant. I am married with 2 beautiful earthly children and 1 heavenly angel. However, as an only child, the death of my mother and unborn child proved to be the most difficult deaths to navigate. After the death of my Mom, I researched the Grief Recovery Institute for several years before taking action. After researching the methodology and pursuing the certification, my relationship with grief changed and I learned to live alongside grief with the necessary tools to navigate through my losses.
