About Kristen
Hello! My name is Kristen Gibson, and I'm glad you're here. I'd like to share with you a bit about my healing journey.
My life has been marked by unresolved grief from an early age, having lost my home and sense of security for the first time with my parents’ separation when I was five years old. I grew up poor and a latchkey kid, left largely to my own devices while my mother went to school or worked. Being an only child, I grew up lonely as well, and I suffered painful alienation during my teenage years. At age 19, I suffered a violent, stranger sexual assault. The criminal justice system of the late 1980s dealt a devastating blow to my already fragile, young psyche. I would spend the next 30+ years finding my way to a place of appreciation: of my inherent courage and dignity, strength, worth, purpose, and calling.
In The Grief Recovery Method™, I found a program broad enough to encompass the range of my grief, very little of which arose in response to a physical death. This is the first program I have found that feels to me like a true fit. Rather than a one-size-fits-all program that fits none well, The Grief Recovery Method™ fits, tailor-made, a range of experience.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara and a Master of Divinity from Naropa University. I am a hospice chaplain in rural North Dakota, and I am delighted to be able to offer The Grief Recovery Method™ Full Cycle program in both 7-session, one-to-one and 8-session, group formats as well as Pet Loss, Helping Children, and Alumni programs to the northern plains region through my private practice based in Minot, ND.
