I have been given very practical tools to use with any loss I experience. The class has given me the motivation and the tools to explore myself and has created several themes in my emotional life which have both benefitted and adversely impacted relationships throughout my life. I’m a coach and I was impressed with the ability of the facilitators to create and energize teamwork and a cohesion among the class participants. Great course, great leaders.

Our GRM Facilitator was available and offered to work with us individually as needed, and communicated with us before/after each class..
I appreciated class contact information and significant days for class community building and support, and learning and using tools to reflect on my losses and relationships and sentence structure for use in writing the communication completion letter.

The program has given me tools to cope with grief that come from un-met expectations, whether the areas get better or remain the same. I've learned how to give voice to my feelings and know my truth matters. I'm committed to taking better care of myself and my emotions, without being overtaken by my emotions. If by chance an emotion overtakes me, and I now quickly revisit tools and releasing the weight from my backup of unmet expectations!

The program helped me discover what was really bothering me for most of my life after the death of my wife. I discovered from reading the book and completing the loss graph, the majority of the grief I was carrying around from the way I was treated by my father in childhood. I first did the relationship graph and completion on my father. I felt a huge relief after that. Then I had a chance to do a relationship graph and completion letter to my wife. With that , I have felt better than I have since she died. I used to have to force myself to do things. Now I feel like I have started another chapter in my life. I have closure. A burden is off my shoulders.

Lois is a GRM master! She leads with her heart and her knowledge base is evident by stories and examples that demonstrate deep life wisdom. I love the way she creates an emotional space for all to be heard and believed with respect. She brings her life experiences that enrich the learning and add relevant meaning. Her vulnerability in sharing her own stories, emotions, and on-going learning helps set the pace for others. I have high standards for facilitators, and Lois rose the bar even higher - thank you. Lois Hall is excellent! She not only explained the concepts, but gave effective real life examples. She is passionate about the process and about us as her specialists. She was patient, empathetic, efficient, understanding, professional, warm, nonjudgmental, open, transparent and gave those of us in the class permission to be the same by her example. She made the 4-day experience powerful, cathartic, and empowering. I felt comfortable being transparent and vulnerable in a setting with 10 other people I didn't know. By the end of the four days, we had become a closely bonded group of specialists excited to serve hope to our community out of loving hearts. Lois led by example and I'm so thankful for leadership. I've gained a friend, a mentor and rich resource as I pursue a career i Grief Recovery. The program was helpful in thinking about the myths we carry around about grief and recovery. I had a hard time with this idea of "completing" grief--doesn't seem to fit this idea that we live with the loss for a lifetime. I also think the program should consider how this process could work with children who are hesitant or resistant to talking about their grief, articulating forgiveness and apologies, etc. The examples used in the book were of children who readily spoke about their grief -- it's just not that easy in the real world, especially with teenagers. It was frustrating, at times, to read about strategies that can't just be put into place with children who won't talk.

I'll admit, I wasn't sure how I'd feel being so raw into my own grieving experience, while learning to help others navigate through their own. I wasn't prepared to be personally impacted by the method, but I was. I have struggled all of my life related to the loss relationship with my mother. I never knew until taking the GRM training that what I felt, the sadness, was due to a loss of relationship with my mother. It came up strong for me during the GRM training, so much that I was emotionally forced to address my loss and the affect of that loss on me with my group members. It made an extreme difference to me to be able to share my grief about that relationship, and in doing so it lighten my heart. The negative feelings and thoughts that I had based on that loss were lifted, and after I shared myself in the group, others told me that I "spoke for them". That was an amazingly powerful experience for me, it changed my life that day. And there was a domino effect of understanding and letting go of other things that came out of that loss.

The "breakthrough" was life changing for me. All teachers need to go through this training...anyone that works with children because they are working with growing innocent minds in a world that is moving to fast to care anymore. Lois Hall is the most amazing human being. I have been a full time Health & Life Coach for the last 2 1/2 years, I work with an amazing team of coaches part time at the Health Coach Institute and have always been surrounded with the top 1 % in the industries I have worked in. I am a born leader and have fallen in love with the world of coaching. I have to say, Lois opened me up in such a beautiful way over the four days we spent together. I can not say enough about how as our facilitator, Lois was knowledgeable, compassionate & hilarious! That women deserves a medal for her academy award winning leadership skills and presentation. I appreciated that we were asked not to take notes, drink alcohol (after class each evening) and had homework. It forced us all, in the most humbling way to be present, during class and after, feel like what it feels like to be grieving & dig even deeper after class with the assignments. I learned so much. I loved meeting the amazing 7 human beings in my class and appreciated how intimate the group setting was. I am used to conferences with 1,000 + people and this was special. Sitting in a room for 8+ hours a day can be overwhelming, exhausting and to be honest boring at times. This class was none of the above. Lois delivers the content from a place of passion, gratitude & commitment. She created 8 believers during our time together. The sessions allowed me to look at my situation in a totally different light as well as having an opportunity to listen and learn from other people who participated and how they have dealt with their pain. It's good to have different perspectives to open my mind to a new thought process. Sometimes I felt as though I was the only one having certain thoughts and feelings. The Grief Recovery Method allows you to work directly on your grief regardless of time which passed since your loss occurred. When dealing with grief using this method, we enter into the "emotional" time and through this learn a great deal about ourselves and also recognize that so many problems in our society stem from the unresolved grief. I feel strongly that this method can not only help an individual and be applied continuously to various experiences of loss), but also can have a healing effect on the society by increasing the awareness and change patterns of behavior.

I came to my first Grief Recovery class because I want to become a certified Grief Recovery Specialist. I believe it is necessary to go through the Grief Recovery class as a participant to fully understand and embrace the Grief Recovery Method. I left the class having experienced the completion of a relationship i did not realize I needed to complete. I came back a few months later for an Alumni class and did some work on another relationship. The third class I participated in was dealing with children who have experienced a loss. Lois Hall was facilitator for each of these groups. I look forward to being trained as a Grief Recovery Specialist with Lois in January. I have come to view one of the Grief Recovery Methods purpose as , the re-normalizing of experiencing conflicting emotions as a result of a loss and working through those emotions in a tangible repeatable way. Grief Recovery becomes a way of living that examines the depth and complexity of lost relationships, understands what has been left unsaid, and grants the Griever a space and time to complete the relationship by speaking the unspoken apologies, forgiveness and significant emotional statements. The Grief Recovery Method is the formal class and the by chance encounter. The Grief Recovery Method beckons the griever to remember, examine, apologize, forgive and find peace. I have come to a place of peace, having followed the Grief Recovery Method to communicate and complete significant lost relationships. And when the pain of grief once again stabs my heart, I will return to the now familiar path of Grief Recovery , examine, apologize, forgive, communicate, complete the relationship and move forward with peace.

I received this evaluation regarding the two day workshop that I attended in Columbus, Ohio in October, 2018. Lois Hall was the facilitator. It was an excellent class. I enjoyed it very much and learned quite a bit even though I have been through the GRM certification training and the Advanced training. It was especially helpful to hear the information again; this time, being familiar with the material, I was able to absorb the information differently. I heard more .... I understood more .... I could participate more. I am delighted I made the effort to go and feel the money was well spent. I worked on another personal loss of my own, and of course, this is extremely helpful. Not only for my own personal growth and personal grief issues, but because I am an Advanced GRM Specialist. The more personal work that I do, I find that I am a better Specialist. It is important to be able to sit on both sides of the program. I trust that taking this workshop has improved my professional skills. I would like to make one suggestion: since many participants come from out of state and need to catch a plane on Sunday, perhaps start the weekend program on a Friday - early evening. Say 7 p.m. or so ... Have a "welcome gathering" and begin the material. Introductions can be done here. Work all day on Saturday. On Sunday, be done with the program by 3 p.m. (or 4 p.m.) . Of course, people want to get to the airport in a timely fashion and home at a reasonable hour. Many go back to work on Monday This is merely a suggestion. Lois is so well organized and knows the material so well that she was able to move the class along easily .... however, the end is a bit rushed due to the intensity of the Completion Letter and the travel concerns. I am not so sure that other facilitators will be able to be as effective as Lois. Introductions can be done that first evening,as well. I do realize that this might mean staying an extra night, or people day traveling to the program will need to add one more drive, but it might be worth trying and seeing what kind of feedback we get from it. Another thought: if the two-day workshop draws a large crowd, a co-facilitator might be helpful. Maybe for groups 12 or more ... Hope this helps - kudos to Lois for being a super hero, and kudos to the GRM organization for trying new formats .... we live in a society where the customer/s demands quite a bit; I am happy to be part of an organization that recognizes this fact. Best, Filomena Mazzone

In the 2-day session, I felt good leaving the first day. I had hope that I would get better. On the morning of the second day, I could feel myself resisting: I knew it was going to be very hard to work through the grief. It was, too. But with Lois Hall's help, I did it! In the days following, I felt lighter - I even weighed myself because I was sure I'd lost weight! (I hadn't) :) I have noticed the effects of releasing my grief and negative thought patterns and beliefs in multiple aspects of my life. I am finally able to FEEL love again for my kids, family, and boyfriend. I have been working through my grief with therapists, EMDR, self-help books, and incredible support team of family and friends, but nothing has been as effective and beneficial as this class. I am excited to continue using this method to work through and improve my other relationships, and I will be returning next year to become a specialist so I can share this awesome healing with my patients. THANK YOU to Russell Friedman and John James - may your legacy live on forever!!

I am so excited to be able to implement all that I learned during my certification so I can help others. It was one of the most positive and impactful experiences that I have ever had in my life. I know I now have the tools and knowledge that is needed to help others with their grief.

Grief Recovery Method is a life changing action program. I admit being like Forest Gump when Jenny told him,”run Forest, run!” I wanted to run several times. However, I endured and worked through areas for years I avoided. Upon returning home, I closed the chapter of pain. I am free to move without the sting of pain. ~ Carol Williams, Grief Recovery Specialists, Certified by The Grief Recovery Method~

I found the program was excellent in guiding my discovery of and communicating what was incomplete in my relationship with deceased family member.

Now that I've participated in the Alumni program, I feel complete on the relationship from that experience. I now feel confident to use the Method on other relationships in my life. I also feel confident to use my Specialist training to co-facilitate the program.

The GRM has help with my approach to relationships and has given me a structure around which I can begin to deal with traumatic grief from early in my life. It has freed me and help me identify behaviors I have used to block out grief. Every time I do a new graph(3) I feel another weight lifted

I did not like some of the things we had to write about, but in the end, I really do feel better and more content with my life and looking forward to making the best I can out of my remaining years without my husband.

The seminar was absolutely amazing! Lois was our instructor and she was excellent at teaching the concepts and making sure we fully understood what we were learning. She was well-organized, patient and engaging. The four days went so fast and by the end of the training none of us wanted to leave. We had dealt bonded and that made learning about grief easy and comfortable. I highly recommend this training.

Personally the program worked greatly for me, however I measure myself by Lois and those are tough shoes to walk in. I intentionally watch my tone, my position, not to give an emotional griever tissue.

As I walked into the room I was a simply a greiver anxious to complete my four year journey after the death of my husband and anxious to be better equipped to address and talk with other grievers referred to me by neighbors and friends. What I achieved was far greater than I expected or hoped - I now have a proven method to guide me and so much support that I am confident I can not only respond to those referrals, but I now know how to build a proactive outreach to help others. Thank You Lois Hall and GRM

When I arrived at the training I was unaware I would be doing personal work, I had been "working through" domestic violence pain with my ex husband but never seemed to move forward. It was as if I was standing on the beach with these massive waves crashing around me. I was able to stand firmly until the next wave came toward me and then I would sink further. Through the GRM I was able to gain insight into foundational truths and now when the waves come which they probably will, I have a foundation to stand on. I have been set free from the weight of guilt and shame and have found joy. This weekend I received a precious gift. thank you!

The Grief Recovery Specialist Certification Training is designed to prepare people to better help others by first investing in themselves, and ensuring that everyone who has been certified has been a participant of at least one GRM class. This experiential approach is a great took for better understanding the Method, and it helped me personally with completing another significant loss in my life, which will enable me to be a more effective helper for others.

I have gone through many training programs, from becoming a spiritual director, to pastoral care and counseling which took months and years. I did this training in four days and it was completely life changing, unlike any other continuing education conference I have ever attended. Even going through a CPE residency did not effect this degree of change in how I view myself, my life and my own grief issues! Thank you from my healing soul and heart!

The Grief Recovery Method opened my eyes to the losses in my life that I still needed to process. I am very grateful for the opportunity to help others while still helping myself. I have done other grief programs that were specifically for those who have lost a spouse, but this method gave me actual tools to recover. Since we are all grieving something, I would recommend The Grief Recovery Method to EVERYONE!

The Grief Recovery Method Training has been life changing! I am SO excited to be able to share with others what we have learned. The training could not have come at a better time in my life. I am facing my father's terminal illness and my mother's mental illness at the same time. I am so grateful for the gifts that I have been given by my employer/church for sending me, and by the materials that were taught.

As a Hospice Chaplain it took me back to my trainning in CPE, Clinical Pastoral Education. The group process was both challenging and enjoyable. For myself, it is a wonderful way to learn, being present with one another. Being in this group, one couls sense the carying traits of the group members. Lois had the right touch of knowing when to speak and when to let us speak. Enjoyable experience.

I have been working in the capacity to help others through grief for many years and that knowledge stunted my own ability to grieve. This program finally gave me permission to let my heart bleed in order to begin healing. I want to share it with EVERYONE!!

I read THE GRIEF RECOVERY METHOD HANDBOOK twice, completed the exercises and applied what I learned to my own situation before registering for the training. I was so appreciative for the help and impressed with how simple the methodology is and how well it works, I wanted to share it with others. Upon completion of the training and with the many resources available on the website, I feel well equipped to help others in either a group or one-on-one setting.

I did not anticipate the personal journey I would take through this training, but I am so grateful I was asked to do my own grief work in the presence of our instructor, Lois Hall, and in the presence of other like-souled individuals. I learned a great deal about myself, my journey of loss and grief, and how to help others with theirs. "This program has the potential to change the world," as one of the participants stated, and this is TRUE. Change yourself - change the world! Become a Grief Recovery Method Specialist!

At the time I was introduced to Grief Recovery I had been experiencing grief from the loss of our first grandchild who was still born. I had read many books.... talked to many people, pastors, Drs. and it seemed nothing helped. I was working 2 jobs..School nurse Mon.-Fri. and hospital as OB nurse on Sat. and was a Pastor's wife with many obligations to my church on Sun. I also had 3-4 losses around the same time. A teenager who was in my group was killed in a car accident, a man that we were very close to in the church died with cancer, and my daughter was engaged to be married that summer only to find out that her financee was dating another girl. Every thing was planned and wedding dress bought. I had read everything on grief that I could get my hands on.... nothing helped.... Since I have been doing Grief Recovery I have seen such beautiful healing take place. I am thankful for John James and talked to Russell Friedman per phone more than once. He always had a listening heart and the right answer. He is missed by everyone I know. . My son in law just went to be certified and is excited about starting the program in his church. Thank you for the beauty of learning the Grief Recovery Method... Sincerely Judy Whitener
