Ricki was great. She was very compassionate and thoughtful with people, and very professional in her delivery of the materials. She explained things very clearly and I always felt prepared to do my homework assignments. She was also always available if any of us hit roadblocks during the week and had individual questions.

Rickie is highly professional in what she does. She is not judgmental but, rather empathetic with the person(s) she guides as an instructor.

This program has helped me get through the process of loosing my father. I was unable to speak when I first started and I’ve noticed so much improvement since I started the homework is also very helpful.

I gained a greater understanding of how losses throughout life affect my response to current losses and the habits I develop to "cope" when it seems overwhelmingly impossible.

It has helped me understand that we all have different ways of grieving and its okay to cry to have emotions and that I do not have to apologize for my grief and each of us may grieve for different reasons. I would recommend this program to anyone going through a loss

I was unable to deal with the loss of my sister. I was sad, angry and frustrated. The program helped me deal with the loss of my relationship with her and my desire for things to be different. I am able to cope with the fact that she is gone but will never be forgotten and I don't have to "put it behind me".

I wasn't sure what to expect but now I have a whole new perspective on life and loss. I was able to communicate what I need to in a safe place. I grieved and know that I can let go of the pain. I expect there will be more sad times ahead but I can easily replace them with happier memories. Thank you for this teaching. It was enlightening and will look forward to carrying what I've learned into the future.

When I lost my 13 year old grandson to suicide 8 months ago I didn’t believe I would ever recover from it or be able to continue to live a normal life. His parents did the GRM program not long after he passed and strongly encouraged me to do it also. Through the GRM I learned what my patterns were in handling losses throughout my life. I had no tools to deal with my pain. The conventional ones of time, keep busy, he’s in a better place, etc. just made me angry. After my experience with GRM I know I will be able to carry on and remember my boy with love and happy memories. Miss him? Of course, I always will and very sad, too, but the overwhelming heaviness of grief has been lifted. Thank you. Sally

I realized that I am able to speak other words (regrets vs guilt) to help me cope. I need to stop acting like I am okay. Talk more about how I am feeling.

I have a better understanding of the myths surrounding grief and that we are not taught about grief. I learned that grief is normal and there are no set timeframes or steps. While I am grieving deeply for the loss of my husband, I have learned how to be supportive of my family as they have losses in the future, especially my grandchildren. And I plan to use the process to help me complete my relationship with my aging mother now so that I will not have regrets when she dies.

More insightfully when I am sterbing and moving quicker to apologize, forgive in my head so I can be free and acknowledging moments to let me stop festering in negative issues, and thoughts

I appreciated the fact that the book used the dictionary to give meaning to the words we hear everyday, for example "forgive". After completing the program and learning how to talk to myself, I am hopeful that forgiving myself will be attainable.

I feel more at ease with the complications of dealing with a living person who has been a source of losses for me. I feel lighter and able to be more objective and considered in my approach. It has helped keep my mood even.

A weight has been lifted that was a true barrier for grieving the unexpected loss of my husband. After completing the workshop and reading my letter, I can for the first time in a long time picture my husband with a love that I couldn't access previously due to the unresolved communications that blocked my heart. I feel free and truly complete; thank you for providing me with this gift! I am forever indebted to all of you, including my expert facilitator!

I have lost a husband of 40 years. Because of Covid I am alone without family or friends around. It was comforting to share my loss with Ricki via "Zoom" - she had a good ear and was a calming influence. While I liked my appointment with Ricki, I didn't much enjoy the Grief Recovery Handbook. I understand there was a grief learning process to follow but the book 'annoyed' me. I felt the book covered too many different types of loss not related to my situation. I had very little background loss experience. I didn't feel comfortable seeking negative reasons within my relationship, although there were some undeniably. And I didn't care for the second book writer's input. I did my homework and read chapters and it wasn't until I sat with Ricki that I could put matters in perspective. I don't know how the program has worked for me. Obviously good or bad reasons listed above may stay with me and help me understand my loss as time goes on. Maybe I would have been happy just talking to Ricki but I also understand that the book gave structure to our appointment process.

I had read the book before but it was not nearly as effective as having someone to guide me through. It kept me on a schedule with a reasonable pace so I didn't read too much at one time or too little, although maybe some chapters could be shorter and maybe the course a little longer to allow for re-reading and better absorption of material. Maybe it's just because older people have much of life to reflect upon so covering 65 yrs with someone on a chart is a lot different than someone who lost someone in their twenties, so it would easier to handle. I wish the book would also include some suggestions for things like art therapy exercises and support groups online.

IM NOT GOING TO SAY THAT IT WORKED OR DIDNT WORK FOR ME. IT DID ENLIGHTEN ME TO VIEW SITUATIONS DIFFERENTLY. I THINK I WALKED IN EXPECTING MY HEART TO BE FIXED & NOT TO BE SO SAD. THE HARDEST THING IN THE PROGRAM WAS EXPECTING TO FIND FORGIVENESS OR GIVE FORGIVENESS IN THE STATEMENTS & GRAPH. IT WAS AS IF THERE WAS A FAULT FINDING MISSION IN THAT PORTION & FOR MY INSTANCE THAT IS WRONG. MY HEART HAS EXPERIENCED A LOSS & HAVING TO FIND FORGIVENESS WAS NOT WHAT I WAS SEARCHING FOR.

It has provided a source of understanding grief. My first comment to Ricki was "I am Irish, Catholic and we don't do grief".. Was I wrong. During the reading of the book "When Children Grieve" I felt feelings for events in my life that I had buried deep in my Emotional Backpack. I have ordered the Grief Recovery Method to use to open my heart up to healing. I am prepared to do the work and not afraid of the outcome. Ricki gave me that gift.

For me there was an awareness of grieving that I had never thought about before. It helped me to understand the tools needed to go forward with my life. I was able to come to grips with the loss of my husband and I never felt threatened or mistreated in the group. In fact, the opposite. Everyone was so compassionate and understanding because they too were going through the grief of someone they lost. I never felt that it would be the end, but a new beginning for me without my husband. We were inseparable for the 29 years of marriage and I have no one left, but this program helped me to understand that it will be a different way of living for me and I will always love and miss him.

It allowed me to see my grief as normal. Through interaction with others in the group along with the Facilitator Ricki Ray I was able to come to terms with what I was going through. I was not going crazy, I was feeling normal emotions. The last lesson, the Completion Letter was the best as it put into perspective all that was learned throughout the entire course.

The program offered more help than I could have imagined. By the last class I felt like a load had been lifted from my shoulders. Instead of going over and over the same concerns, those concerns had been put to rest. We were given the ability to handle any other losses by use of the same methods. This felt like an added bonus.
