Trudie Slomp

I was born and raised in Southern Alberta living most of my life in Lethbridge. I joined Martin Brothers Funeral Home in 2013 after retiring from nursing. Having worked at the funeral home, I was very much aware of the Grief Recovery Program that has been offered at Martin Brothers since 2009 and encouraged others to participate in this program. In 2022, an inaugural online program was started by a funeral service colleague, Brian Magee. I took that program having had several losses in my family such as parents and four siblings. Taking this program helped me tremendously with things that I had pushed down or buried in my memory ( some negative and some positive). This program helped me to gain a proper perspective and gave me a peace which I did not fully understand that I needed. Having taken this program personally, gave me the desire and initiative with the support and encouragement of my fellow colleagues to take the training as a Grief Recovery Specialist. I completed that training and became a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist in early 2023. I partner with Lorrie Penner, a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist as well as a Social worker and mental health therapist in leading group programs at Martin Brothers Funeral Home in Lethbridge. I will also be offering one on one sessions as well.
