About Amanda

After a divorce and subsequent death of her dog in 1992, Amanda participated in the Grief Recovery Method's 3-day personal workshop, which enabled her to move through these two losses.  Because it gave her the tools / life skills for dealing with her future losses, she wanted to share this life-changing work with others, and completed the Grief Recovery® Certification Program in 1993, qualifying her to moderate this 8-week course. She realized that she had been born to a grieving mother, who had also been born to a grieving mother, so grief had generationally become part of her family structure. Over the past 30 years, she has "walked the talk" of this program and continues to be in awe of its very simple but powerful tools. In that time she lost both her parents, two more dogs, three "step-cats" and has experienced many other losses of various types including ending of relationships, relocations, job loss, and sale of childhood home in the UK.In 2019, she initiated and co-facilitated a Grief Recovery Method series at Valley State Prison for men in Chowchilla, CA.  This was the first prison in California to receive this education and only the second in the US.  She is now regularly co-facilitiating Grief Recovery at the California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo.  Please see the podcast for the results of the in-prison groups:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cDe-pH1V9k    The groups in the prisons have been self funded, and we are grateful for all the donations that we have received - any size of donation is welcome through the umbrella 501(c)(3): https://wonheartinfo.org Amanda received an M.A. in Applied Psychology in 1988 from the University of Santa Monica, a private school specializing in programs in Psychology. Amanda spent 30 years working in the technology field.  In 2013, she happily relocated to San Luis Obispo's coastline from the Silicon Valley where she is involved in coaching and consulting engagements, as well as being a member of the County Behavioral Health Board. In addition to the "purple book" workshops, Amanda is now offering Helping Children With Loss groups for Parents, Teachers, Administrators, Youth focused non-profits, Churches, Social Service Professionals dealing with Foster Care, Adoptions, CPS, or Juvenile Detention.   For more information, please refer to: https://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/our-programs/helping-children-lossWhat recent participants have said:"Amanda made us feel safe and cared for from the first meeting""The group exceeded my expectations.  It was a very valuable experience""Loved Amanda's perspective, knowledge, compassion and empathy""I now see how my very first loss affected the rest of my life"Please contact Amanda on 650.279.1881  for additional information prior to the next scheduled session. For additional information about the Grief Recovery Method, please see "Our Story" on the About Us page on http://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/about-usThanks for your interest and wishing you well.

My Experience

Eye opener on how to apply 'common sense' and correct the 'standard' of grief responses to proper, compassionate LISTENING. Thank you!

My Experience

This was one of the most useful groups I've taken (I've taken a lot). The method used proved to be accessible and effective. I feel a tremendous sense of closure from the work I've done using The Grief Recovery Method. Thanks!
