About Ed

My journey to the Grief Recovery Institute ® began after the devastating loss of my 3 year old son, Eddie Ryan, in 2010. After struggling for years with the conflicting feelings and emotions surrounding my son’s death, I found the tools needed to begin my recovery using the Grief Recovery Method ® and this helped me to heal my own broken heart. Recognizing the value of this work, I became a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist ® dedicating my life to helping others overcome loss and grief in their lives.  In 2016, I was asked to become a Trainer for the Institute and I'm honored to teach the GRM Specialist Certification courses throughout the US and Canada, and in 2017 I joined the Institute full time as the Operations Manager. After working as the Director of Advanced GRM Training Programs I'm honored to serve as the Vice President on the Institute, serving grievers and supporting our GRM Specialists worldwide.  In August of 2018 I moved to Sisters, OR from Battle Ground, WA to work out of the Headquarters for the Grief Recovery Institute, when it was located in Bend, OR.  My background includes a BA in Social Science, with a minor in Human Development and a Certificate in Human Services Case Management and Administration. For over 20 years I've been an instructor, trainer and facilitator teaching a wide range of topics. I also has experience working with at-risk foster children as a behavioral specialist as well as coaching and mentoring youth in our schools. I'm a passionate advocate for children’s safety within my state and at the national level. My career includes over 23 years of military and law enforcement experience. I retired from the US Air Force (Reserves) as a First Sergeant in 2009 where I was responsible for the health, safety and welfare of service members and their families. During my career I deployed several times; my last deployment was as a First Sergeant to Iraq in 2006. As a law enforcement officer, I have worked in agencies at the city, county, State and Federal levels. I have a profound passion for helping our military service members, law enforcement, and their families. I offer a variety of GRM programs, including in-person 1-on-1's, Online 1-on-1, 2 Day Personal Workshops, Certification Training, and the Helping Children With Loss Program. Please contat me for more information on the Grief Recovery Method or any of the programs offered, or working with me 1-on-1.  If you're interested in attending a weekend Personal Workshop, you can view upcoming dates, locations, or register via our website: https://www.griefrecoverymethod.com/grief-recovery-workshops. My Experience

My training was wonderful. Ed was very attentive and knowledgeable about the process and modeled what he expected from us. The one thing that would have helped me would be an actual graph, even a made up one, that I could hold in my hand as an example. I am a visual learner, and this would have helped me get it quicker. Personally, this training helped me on a journey I had already begun. It let me know I was going in the right direction and provided tools to get there quickly. I already have some professional prospects to use this model with. I am excited about growing my knowledge and getting comfortable using this model to assist others.

Ed is extremely knowledgeable about the grief recovery method. He helped me to answer some questions I have held on to for a long time. He also helped me to identify some things I didnt know I felt. Thanks to his guidance I was able to get past some of my own grief and learn to help others on their recovery journey.

This training was truly life-changing. I have never experienced such depth and openness from both the instructor and the participants. Deep wounds of my heart were addressed in a way that allows them to heal. The training was so transformative that I feel like a different person. I am deeply motivated to help others recover from their pain using the GRM. Thank you so, so, so much!
