My journey with the Grief Recovery Institute began in 2015 at a Grief Recovery Specialist Certification training. Like so many others, I had experienced a personal loss that had rocked my life to the core. The pain associated with the unexpected loss of my Father became complete after my training and opened a door to increased knowledge, understanding and empathy for myself and others who are grieving.Personally and professionally, the experiences with Grief Recovery had taken me to a place where I knew I wanted to make this work the focus of my counseling career. While attending the First Grief Recovery International Conference, I was inspired and motivated to begin planning for a practice focused on the Grief Recovery Institutes’ programming. But as we all know, life sometimes changes our path. I found myself presented with a career opportunity that would take me away from direct client care and into an administrative role. My biggest barrier to accepting this amazing opportunity was identifying a way to still keep Grief Recovery a priority. Knowing that there is never a shortage of grievers, I decided that my opportunities to share the GRM would grow exponentially in the new positon…In 2018, I became the Chief Clinical Officer for Family Resource Center of Northwest Ohio. My goal was to incorporate the GRM into our clinical practices across the 10 counties we serve for clients and community members. To date, FRC has had several staff trained in the GRM, it is regularly “gifted” to staff for their own personal work and is setting our organization apart. We offer several formats in our outpatient and residential settings and are experiencing positive results and feedback.As a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the State of Ohio with over 20 years’ experience, I have always believed that it is a privilege to walk along someone during a challenging and vulnerable time in their life.
