About Mary

In my 50+ years, I have experienced many of the life events that cause grief and also walked alongside loved ones as they experienced losses. What I love about Grief Recovery Method is the way in which it equips hurting people with a method with specific actions they can take so they can begin to heal from the pain. I work with individuals, couples and families. My mission is to encourage, equip and empower clients as we identify their strengths, challenges, and resources for their goals. I especially enjoy supporting clients who feel “stuck” or are dealing with loss of any kind. My professional experience includes serving as a day care director, a consultant for the State Department of Education in Planning & Policy, counseling practicums and internships in both community agency and university settings, a research assessor for Vanderbilt University’s Voluntary Pre-K research project as well as 10+ years of work with elementary age children in a summer camp setting. I earned a B.S. in Education from Millsaps College, an M.A. in Marriage & Family Therapy from Reformed Theological Seminary, and a Post-Masters Certificate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. My husband and I have been married 33 years, survived the roller coaster ride of parenting three children and now delight in spending time with our baby grandsons. I'm an introvert who loves people, and enjoy hiking, reading narrative non-fiction, and (nerd-alert!) have watched Jeopardy! for over 30 years. My office is in the Red Bank area and I serve clients of all ages in the Chattanooga area.
