About Peter
Peter is from Long Island, NY, living in Los Angeles, California. He has been a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist since March 30, 2009. He is an ordained member of the Brothers of St. John of God, an international health care community serving in 50 countries. He has been in healthcare ministry for over 50 years and has served as an RN, Board Certified Hospital Chaplain, Hospice Chaplain, Spiritual/Retreat Director, Retreat Facilitator in Rachels Vineyard Retreat Ministries for post-abortion healing, Grief to Grace, the healing of sexual abuse and Retrouvaille Retreats to help heal broken and wounded marriages. Peter also studied under the late Ligia Dantes of the Center for Holistic living for over 20 years in compassionate inquiry, mindful living, growing in inner wisdom as one serves suffering humanity. His personal journey in grief recovery began on January 28, 1986, with the explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger and the death of 7 astronauts which awakened areas of grief and loss he had put on hold for many years. This led him on a 5-year journey of intensive grief work. In March of 2009, Peter was taught the Grief Recovery Method Program by the late Russell Friedman who was called by CNN the "go-to Grief Recovery" expert. He found this 4-day experience transformative in his life. Peter has facilitated GRM groups and has seen the healing and transformation of those who have been willing to go through and complete the entire Grief Recovery Method process. My Experience
I am very grateful for the initial recommendation of the Grief Recovery Method book. I began to read it as soon as I received it. I also began to share what I was learning with others. We as a group decided to ask Fr. Peter Gelfer to be our facilitator which he agreed to do so. It has been a grate blessing. I have continued to use the tools he provided.
