About Susan

Welcome to my page, I am Susan Pollard, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and my hope is to share my strength for grief and loss. At the age of 20, I experienced my first significant loss when I put my daughter up for Open Adoption. Since that time, I would lose my Father-in-law to cancer and my Husband's Uncle to suicide. I have gone through the loss of my county social work job, loss of health, and a loss of personal close relationships. Most recently on Halloween of 2019 my social work intern and friend, her husband and 3-year-old son were all tragically killed by a drunk driver. The loss of this beautiful family will forever be in my heart. I have begun to realize that experiencing these multiple losses has impacted me as I was carrying around emotional pain and found myself needing a safe place to share my loss. I attended the 4 day Grief Recovery Method Training for both professional and personal reasons. I have now opened my own private practice to provide both the grief recovery method and psychotherapy. Through the years I have become compassionate, supportive and understanding of others as they too shared stories of grief and loss. I have worked in the field of substance use disorders for over 20 years and have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for 16 years, During this time I have worked closely with loving caring individuals that were just trying to get the help they needed to recover from their addiction, reunite with their children lost in the system and find comfort and healing for themselves. I was able to implement and facilitate my own grief and loss group as part of a high profile County Drug Court Program in Orange County, I am so grateful that I found the GRM training. I walked into a room with others that welcomed me and got truthful about their own personal loss. I found a safe place to receive support and education about the grieving process. What I found was a different more effective approach for addressing grief and loss issues. I now have learned new tools to examine my own personal losses and have gained insight into grieving behaviors that have impacted my life. Again, I hope that you will reach out to me so I can assist you in finding strength for grief and loss which I was able to find. I currently offer both individual and group programs in the West Garden Grove and Long Beach areas. I am available for a free 20-30 minute free consultation or you can email me.

My Experience

The program helped me identify some not so obvious losses in my life. It also helped me to realize and understand the idea of wanting a relationship to have been different, better or more affects my ability to move through my grief. The exercises culminating in the completion letter were very beneficial in helping me voice my part in my relationship with my son who died and to make my apologies, to forgive and to say things I needed to say.

My Experience

I liked the structure with in class information, time sharing with partners and some reading and homework each week. It was manageable. While it brought up many emotions and was not always easy, I was motivated each week to join our group and continue on our journey together.
