I am April Minjarez, a licensed clinical psychologist and licensed marriage and family therapist based in San Diego, California. In 2022, I encountered the Grief Recovery Method while navigating the personal loss of my beloved grandfather, a pivotal figure in my life who embodied the roles of both mother and father to me many times in my life. His passing left me grappling with a profound sense of loss, a challenge that intensified with the subsequent loss of my biological father. Traditional approaches to grief counseling offered little solace during this period. It was then that I chose to explore the Grief Recovery Method. Interestingly, the initial focus of this journey was not on my grandfather or father, but it led to a significant breakthrough – the experience of emotionally completing a relationship. As a therapist in private practice, this transformative experience resonated deeply with me. Recognizing its potential to aid others, I felt compelled to master this method.
