About Vashonia

Vashonia Weatherspoon is an Advanced Grief Recovery Method Specialist in McDonough, GA who understands the pain of grief and loss. Having personally experienced divorce and having helped others navigate separation and loss, she knows firsthand the importance of addressing unresolved emotional pain. Vashonia's passion for supporting individuals in their grief journey is reflected in the grief support services she offers, including online grief support, helping children with loss, grief support groups, pet loss support groups, and a grief support 1:1 program. Vashonia first learned about Grief Recovery from a colleague who had taken the course following the death of her husband. At that time, her reference point for grief was death so she took the information and stored it away because she had not experienced any recent deaths. It was not until one day when she was coaching a client that she realized that the client was grieving from her recent separation from her partner. Recognizing that she was not equipped to support her, she remembered the recommendation that she had received a couple of months earlier. It was then that she decided to reach out to learn more about the certification program. Initially, she came to the training under the guise of helping others: however, as she went through the program, she quickly realized that the first person she was there to help was herself. Even though she had experienced a divorce 9 years earlier, she did not feel that she had any unresolved grief. What she discovered is that she was carrying around a lot of old emotional pain that stemmed back to her childhood, which likely contributed to her divorce. Having a way to recognize and give voice to those suppressed emotions helped her to feel a freedom that she had never felt. With over 25 years of public service experience, Vashonia has honed her communication and interpersonal skills, making her an excellent listener and a compassionate guide for those seeking support. As a certified professional coach through iPEC and a licensed Positive Intelligence (PQ) coach, Vashonia is committed to helping individuals reach their full potential and live a happy and fulfilled life despite the pain of grief. She brings her extensive experience in conflict resolution, coaching, and leadership to her grief support services, providing her clients with a safe and supportive environment to process their emotions and heal from their loss. My Experience

When I came to this program I did not know what to expect. What I knew was that I was experiencing grief, and I was seeking what sounded like a healthier way of processing my feelings. From the handbook and my Facilitator, I learned that my way of thinking around grief and processing loss was on the right track, but was also just surface movement through occurrences. I am someone that does not have a problem acknowledging my feelings. In fact, they sometimes dictate how I'm able to move through the day (i.e. if there's something I need to deal with or sit with, it takes precedence). With the content and homework through this program, it helped me to hone in on finding the root cause and possible connectivity of issues, as well as equipping me to be present for my friends when they are experiencing grief/loss. I am now more cognizant and situationally aware of how we intellectualize grief, which causes me to be more of a listening ear instead of always offering words.
