Hello everyone, welcome to the Feel Free again podcast. I'm your host, Cole James and I have a very special guest today. We actually met I had the pleasure of meeting Deborah in England last spring I believe it was and she's doing incredible stuff with the grief recovery method and we had several wonderful conversations and so I really wanted her to be on this show. Again her name is Deborah Brown.

She is the director of Gifts which stands for grief information for teachers and services and she's going to get into the again the wonderful services she's providing to teachers and parents and and her passion is to help children with this method. So Deborah without any further ado, welcome to the podcast. I'm glad you're here. Yeah, I co finally we got rounds when it's nice to be here.

Thank you for having us. Yes, absolutely, absolutely and Deborah is in Manchester in in England and and doing that work out there and so Deborah, I think you probably know but usually we start off the podcast just with a little bit about how you got into this work, how you found it, all that all that kind of stuff. Yeah, and well the first thing that happened is my mum died in 2013 of breast cancer. And she was the boss, the matriarch at the family, she sort of kept us all together, put us in our place is type of thing.

And so that was a massive massive issue for us as a family. And I have to be honest, I didn't really start to look to support my own grief at all. Most people told me to be strong for the children. My two children at the time were quite young, six and eight.

So really very young really to be dealing with the loss of their grandma. And so I did, I did going to be strong. That's exactly what I did. I just sort of kept going and expected that that was what we were supposed to do really to be honest.

And I started to look at the stages of grief model. And at the time I was questioning really why I wasn't at a particular stage. Why was I not angry because apparently it was supposed to be angry or why was I not in denial because I was supposed to be in denial and these things were sort of there at the back of my mind, but wasn't really doing anything about it. I was thinking about it, but I wasn't doing anything about it.
