Congratulations for having the courage to make a step toward finding answers to some questions you have and relief for the pain you feel. My name is Yolanda Mitchum and I am honored to have the opportunity to briefly share about myself. You will learn a little about my loss, why I became a Grief Recovery Method Specialist and how I can walk with you through your significant emotional loss to YOUR healing.
As a child, I was bullied because I had scoliosis and didn’t look like my peers. I was suicidal, and no one knew it. I appeared to be happy and always smiled, yet inside I felt ALONE, INADEQUATE and BROKEN. Today as a registered nurse, mentor, parent, church school leader and previously an inpatient adolescent mental health nurse, I see children face greater pressures from social media and their peers. Public images distort reality, which in turn has affected mental health at a larger scale in comparison to growing up in the 1990s. In addition to mental health, children face other losses and do not know how to communicate their feelings.
Although my hidden childhood insecurities rolled into adulthood, I became a very successful registered nurse, obtained a master’s in business administration, and climbed the corporate ladder leading teams, where the sky was the limit. I’ve always had strong faith in God and believed in professional counseling to bring balance in life. None of that mattered my life came to a HARD STOP and my HEALTH took a DOWNWARD turn in 2020. That was the year I lost my unborn child and Amaria, my then 18-year-old daughter, unexpectedly died. I was completely OVERWHELMED with grief, and it was literally HARD TO BREATH. While I’ve had many losses along the way, that was the final loss I could take. I knew I needed something in addition to the "usual" professional counseling, religious guidance, family/friend support and medical care I was already receiving.
I am so grateful for a mother who reached out to a stranger, me-another mother in pain, to offered genuine support through social media and recommended The Grief Recovery Method (GRM). I found the GRM so instrumental in my personal healing from early childhood losses, adult losses, and the most devastating loss – the unexpected death of my daughter. The tools I learned and applied from this program have completely changed my life, help me be a present mother for my living children, empowered me to live again and SMILE for real. Furthermore, GRM impacted how I support children in my care after loss and inspired me to become a GRM Specialist.

Thank you for reading,
I found the Grief Recovery Program practical and applicable to most everyone’s situations of loss. I found that it unearthed the roots of my past losses and SERBS, that was a chain that linked me to repeated behaviors with little if any healthy outcomes. After each exercise I discovered valuable information about myself along with helpful information to release me from and to help me complete the work necessary to change the stagnant cyclical indulgence of ineffective behaviors. Faith without works is dead and I’m so pleased to have put the two together to successfully make a difference in my life and others. This program has helped me to develop a better outlook on today’s society. I was torn apart with grief before my encounter with this agency. Now I can honestly say I can face life with a better perspective of grief. Yolanda is a remarkable blessing from God himself. She also demonstrated passion and zeal to help my healing recovery a success. I will be forever grateful to have completed this recovery with Yolanda. Thank you for allowing my heart to smile.Support Groups07/06/2022
The program opened my eyes to the many different forms of loss not just those caused by death and divorce. I realized that several relationships in my life needed completeness rather than closure. I am now more aware of how to help my daughter with some of her losses and I am more aware of the many facets of loss. The program is very informative and packed with ah ha moments. I am thoroughly thankful to the creator of the program and to Yolanda Mitchum for her delivery and compassion shown. I am completely satisfied.Support Groups05/30/2022
During the grief recovery program, I was able to get so much emotions, feelings, & tears. Had I not been in the program they would’ve stayed bottled up inside me which could’ve definitely led to depression or worse. Now I’m ready to move on living and not just existing. Thank you!!!!Support Groups05/23/2022
