Hi, I'm Kali

I am a very proud mom of wonderful 9 year old daughter, as well as a pet mom to our dog, cat and fish.  We love to spend our summers camping, swimming, walking and soaking up the Sun.  In the winter months, we try to travel and enjoy outdoor winter activities like tubing and making snowmen.

While I have experienced numerous losses and deaths in my lifetime, there are several that have impacted me more so than others.  When I was 13 my parents divorced after many unhappy years of marriage and this severely affected me as I was newly a teen and not prepared to navigate what that meant for our family.  I am also the eldest of 3, and believed it was my responsibility to shelter my younger sisters from our reality.  At the age of 16, one of my oldest and closest friends died unexpectedly, two weeks before her 15th birthday, of an undiagnosed brain tumour.  I was one of the last people to see her before she was taken off of life support and I will never forget the way she looked and the pain I felt.  I believed I had to be strong for her family and the rest of our friends, as that is what I thought was the right thing to do.  My biggest and most impactful loss was the sudden and unexpected death of my partner Chris in June 2012.  Chris was killed in a work accident, at the young age of 28.  We had just welcomed our daughter to the world 4 months earlier and I had just completed my first degree in Sociology, 3 weeks prior.  I never in my wildest dreams imagined I would be a widowed mom at the age of 27.  My entire world was turned upside down and I didn't think I would ever recover.

It was this loss that instilled a passion for grief work and helping those who are grieving.  Over the 8 years of being a widow, I have made conscious efforts to connect with other young, widowed moms and co-created a local Facebook support group that has over 80 members.  You truly do not know how common young, widowed people are until you become one and it is a group I wish didn't need to exist.

While looking to increase my knowledge and skill set, I came across the GRM and knew immediately I had to get trained.  I registered for the soonest available training near me, and could not be happier with my decision.  This program really does work for all relationships and types of loss, as I have experienced first hand.  I have been able to complete my own emotional relationships that I thought I would carry with me for the rest of my life, and it has given me a freedom I did not think was possible.

My goal as a GRM Specialist is to help individuals to ditch the old, ineffective knowledge and tools they have acquired about grief, while applying the actions of the GRM to move forward without the pain associated with significant emotional loss.  I wish to help as many grievers as possible, in and around my community of Saskatoon.

In addition to being a GRM Specialist, I am also a registered social worker.  I have always known I wanted to work with people and to help individuals on an emotional level.  My work allows me to do this in a way that creates lasting, positive change in the lives of the individuals I serve.

I am pleased to offer 1-on-1 and group formats for the 8 week GRM program, as well as a 4 week group program on Helping Children With Loss, for parents; teachers and others who may care for, or work with children.
