Hello! If you are reading this, you are likely feeling intensely due to a loss, and those feelings are interfering with your life. I congratulate you for taking the necessary steps to learn an effective method to heal your heart. High five!
Here is a little about me. Born in suburban Dayton, Ohio, I grew up dreaming of working in many professions; an astronaut, a weather forecaster, and a Broadway star were a few that did not make the cut. The dream that stuck was serving others through teaching, coaching, and healing. The journey toward my vocation started at Ohio University, where I attained a bachelor's degree in Psychology, graduating summa cum laude in 1994. From there, I studied at the Ohio State University College of Medicine, earning my medical degree in 1998. Having heard the call to provide holistic, inclusive, and transformative care, I completed my residency in Family Medicine at Grant Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio. It was my joy to work as a family physician and medical educator for many years... until it wasn't.
You see, during the first 20 years of my practice of family medicine, I suffered a series of losses culminating in the death of my mother, the death of many patients during the COVID pandemic, and the loss of the autonomy to practice medicine in a manner that aligns with my values. I was stuck in my grief, and it was miserable. Doing what I had always done to cope with grief was not working anymore. So, I sought an evidence-based method to help my head and heal my heart. The Grief Recovery Method is just what this doctor ordered. It allowed me to work through the unfinished business of my losses so I could make the necessary changes in my life, allowing me to return to the joyful practice of my vocation and live a more balanced life.
I am honored and privileged to serve grievers with in-person programs in the Dayton area, including the Grief Recovery Method Grief Support Group, One-on-One Support Group, Helping Children With Loss, and Pet Loss Support Group. I look forward to meeting you!
