My name is Renee Hill Carter. As an encourager and soul care provider, my passion and concern is holistic health and wellness - spirit, soul, and body. My focus is to bring awareness and education on the importance of self-care especially when it comes to Grief and Loss. Prior to becoming a GRM Specialist, I realized the need for helping others to deal with their grief and began to teach Grief classes at my church. I discovered that having a place for people to freely and safely express the depth of their feelings was necessary for healing the pain.

My personal experience with grief included the death of my father in 1990; the death of my mother in 2003 and then the sudden death of my oldest sister two years later in 2005. I was devastated. Then in 2015, the senior pastor of my church suddenly passed away. My family and I had been members of the church for almost 28 years and I worked on staff as the Executive Coordinator to the pastor for 20 years. I knew that not only was it me and my family who needed help with this traumatic event but an entire church and so many others that this pastor influenced and knew. As a leader, minister, staff member, and teacher who had done lay counseling in grief, I made an effort to bring in grief help for our church but to no avail. Not only was I broken but an entire congregation didn't know how to effectively deal with this great loss. Becoming certified not only taught me about grief and loss but served to help me with my own incomplete grief with my family members and my pastor. It also educated me on the more than forty other losses that I had not put in the same category as grief. In addition to the more obvious losses such as the death of a loved one or a divorce, the pain of the feelings and emotions of these other losses need to be identified and worked on as well.

Realizing the urgency of help needed when one experiences grief and loss and after hearing about the Grief Recovery Method, I became a certified specialist in 2017. I have conducted numerous 8-week support groups as well as one-on-one sessions in the city of Charlotte, NC. As an Advanced Specialist, I am also able to offer One-on-One training virtually due to COVID-19.

A graduate of Hampton University, Hampton, VA, I have a Bachelor's degree in Sociology. I have received a Master of Arts degree in Christian Counseling (MCC) from Queen City Bible College which functioned from 1993 until its closure in 2014. In addition, I have earned another Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies from Chun University, Charlotte, NC where I also teach "Emotional Health of the Biblical Counselor" and other counseling certificate classes.
I have authored two books, one of which focuses on self-care and holistic health entitled, "What About Me? Staying Healthy and Whole While You're Helping Others".
As a writer for Lifeway Christian resources, several articles have been featured in the Mature Living magazine. I have also developed a curriculum and daily readings for the Leader and Student Guides for the YOU Adult Bible Study.
