Hello, I am Wraquel Spencer Brown and I am a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist.

I would lke to say my journey to get here was not easy, but I am so glad I was introduced to this Method of Recovery after dealing with a Significant Loss. 

In April 2014 I lost my Mother. This was a traumatic, unexpected , untimely death. She had beat brain cancer twice, but shortly afterwards she caught an infection that turned sepsis and took her life. Upon her death it seemed like my world was Turned Upside Down, it felt like I was walking in a maze - Nothing made sense any more. I had been so busy preparing for our future together as she was moving back to her hometown,  I never prepared for her death, so I was caught Off Guard. 

After several dark nights and what seemed like unending weeks I began to see a therapist. It was not easy at first so I would cancel appointments to avoid either leaving my home, or dealing with my pain.  Over time I became a regular client and I did begin to feel better, BUT I noticed I felt "heavy" like a dark cloud was following me.  I begin to Google what I was feeling and stumbled upon GRIEF. I learned there were over 15 types of grief, over 40 Losses that can cause grief, I learned how Grief settles in your body, I also learned that the "meltdown" I had after my Mother's death was not from her death alone, but from Accumulated Losses/ Grief experienced  during my life. Her Death was the Straw That Broke the Camels Back. Fully equipped,  I went to my next therapy session and requested grief counseling, my therapist replied," I am NOT trained in grief".  It was like my hope hit the floor, I left his office with mixed feelings, but those feelings led me to an AWW HAA moment. Not all therapist are trained to treat all issues / conditions.  So I began to google grief therapist, the information was far and few in between, I had to search to find location, speciality, if they accepted insurance or not, please remember this was 2014 not Today.  The information was overwhelming, not organized, so as a griever I felt inconvenienced. It was at that moment I decided, I would become Certified to provide Grief services, I would tell the whole world the Truth about grief and how it can affect / destroy your life if not careful, I would provide Evidence Based Recovery Tools for individuals / families to use to promote their healing, I would encourage Connection so individuals would know They are NOT alone and they do not have to suffer in silence, I would  teach individuals the importance of sharing correct information with their  therapist or doctor because  if not they  can be Misdiagnosed and Mistreated  and placed on medications that they May not really need - ( I do understand there is a people that do really need the medications) . 

I began to create a local event for Survivors of all types of loss to connect with others of similar losses and I invited all the community resources to attend that could help individuals so they would know who they could turn to in their time of need. While preparing this event, I begin to connect with so many people , so i decided to get Certified so I could help those who are hurting no matter their location.

This is how I became a Grief Recovery Specialist - Grief Kicked my AZZ. Grief Sucks!!! I get it- but I also know we can take OUR power bacl  from Grief and Apply it in our lives.
