Hello, I am Johann (pronounced yo-hahn)--a writer, scholar, and board certified chaplain. I have over a dozen years of experience in chaplaincy, both in hospitals and with the military. During this period, I completed a chaplain residency at the Durham VA Medical Center, Basic Chaplain Courses with both the Veterans Health Administration and the United States Air Force, and certification training in a variety of areas including relationship skills, suicide prevention, and the Grief Recovery Method. I earned my B.A. in Communication at the University of Southern California, a Master of Divinity at Duke University, and a Ph.D. in Religion at Emory University. As a writer and scholar, I have both popular and academic publications. Most recently, I published, Re-embodying Pastoral Theology: Ritual Care for Moral Injury in Veterans (Lexington Books, 2024). Whether you're interested in the Grief Recovery Method or working with me in any one of my specialties, please don't hesitate to reach out.
