Sandi Derby was born in a naval hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, and raised across multiple states before her family eventually settled in Upstate New York. Behind the appearance of a "normal" family life, Sandi endured years of physical, SA, and verbal abuse from the age of 2 to 15. In a household where appearances were everything and secrets were buried, she learned to cope the only way she knew how—through denial and repression.
As an adult, Sandi moved to Florida and later to California, where she channeled her energy into corporate success and fitness. Driven by a deep, unresolved sense of inadequacy rooted in childhood trauma, she believed that achievement and physical perfection could silence the internal pain. But neither career success nor substance use could fill the void. By 2003, Sandi had reached the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing—while secretly battling a daily addiction to crystal meth.
In 2005, after confronting the reality of her past, Sandi made the courageous decision to walk away from drugs. A year later, she discovered the Grief Recovery Method®, which gave her the tools and structure to begin true healing. Over time, she not only transformed her own life but became passionate about helping others do the same.
In 2010, Sandi became a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, and later earned the designation of Advanced Specialist and now Trainer for The Grief Recovery Institute. Today, she is an author, speaker, life coach, and the founder of Grief Unchained, an organization dedicated to supporting individuals who are healing from deep emotional wounds of any kind.
Sandi holds a BS in Business Administration and lives in Southern California. Her work is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the possibility of healing, no matter how deep the pain.

This program is for people who prefer to work one-on-one rather than in a group setting. The 7-session format utilizes the same proven materials as the group programs and can be completed in-person or online with a Grief Recovery Method Specialist specifically trained to help people move through loss with dignity and respect.
