Testimonials For Support Groups
When I attended an informational meeting about The Grief Recovery Method, it seemed like the type of program I could buy into. First, it had no ties to religion, and second, it was based on a methodical approach. I am a person who thinks and operates in a structured, methodical way and the program fit me. It starts by introducing a concept and then builds weekly until the entire process has been completed. It left me feeling like I now have some knowledge and tools for dealing with loss and grief. Using those is now up to me!

I view this program as another 'tool' in my toolkit for recovering from losses, big and small, in my life, and I intend to use the skills I learned to complete other relationships where I have undelivered emotional statements.

The program has given me a method for addressing grief in the future of my life where I find I am stuck. The Grief Share approach for me has worked well in dealing with the death of my wife and led me to becoming a member of a Grief Share team. This 13 week approach works best for me because it is faith based and covers many of the areas needing to be address that leads a person from significant grief to joy. The groups consist of persons with like losses which helps in the process.

My wife died in August, 2022 and I was lost without her and desperately in search of help with my overwhelming grief and uncontrollable emotions. In November, I participated in a four hour session conducted by this same organization and same presenter. I received a glimpse of what I felt I needed but then had to wait until February, 2023 to participate in the eight week, in person, recovery program. The wait was nearly unbearable but worth it. This program identified areas and prompted thoughts that I would have never considered. Our presenter, Jeff O’Dell, was a very caring, understanding, experienced and capable leader as he took us through perhaps the single most devastating time and experience of our lives. My youngest daughter participated in this program along with me and I have a son and oldest daughter whom I’m going to strongly urge to participate in another session like this. I’m confident the time and effort would benefit them greatly. I appreciate the opportunity to participate in such a great and helpful program and I am grateful to Jeff for his caring dedication and leadership.

The program helped me be more aware of what my responsibilities are in my grief process and to help have the words to describe and share my feeling effectively to others as well as myself.

GRM opened my eyes to the grief I didn’t know I had experienced in my life. It also helped me walk through the relationship I had with the person I lost and complete the pain associated with it. I did not know what to do with the pain I was feeling before taking this class, and GRM was like a map to guide me through the grief. I still miss my loved one, but now the emotions I feel are more pure. There is nothing hiding behind them. I can feel them and move on.

The class let me let go of the life long feeling that I felt towards my father. I realize that dad was being supportive and understanding, and I was embarrassed that I had to repeat freshman year in college, and that he had to come and get me at school. I was embarrassed that I had failed.
